Book Covers

What if authors and artists had the final say on book covers/backs without marketers? There would be no advertisements or reviews on them. Instead, the art of the cover captures the audience's attention and can influence the reader's perspective of the book's purpose, like an album cover for a musician. I wonder if authors believe the rave reviews, among other marketing material, genuinely have a positive impact on the buyer. And if so, is that the buyer they wrote the book for? If someone only buys best sellers, are they a thoughtful reader? I believe authors prefer an authenticity readership. The cover/back of the book is an excellent opportunity for the author to connect with the reader using a different sense, their eyes. The additional sense aids the reader in understanding the purpose of the book, or to allow the reader to create it themselves. Either way, it's a missed opportunity. Authors and artists having final say on book covers (without marketers) can deliver something fresh. Similar to the way Rockstars would design their album covers. Books now become treasures for not only of the contents inside but by the art on the outside. Book covers an overlooked opportunity. Missed due to hiring of the wrong skill set.
